I've been watching The Golden Girls since the very beginning; I was a little kid when it first aired on TV, and didn't realize how racy these ladies were and didn't get half the jokes. But I still loved it then. And as I've re-watched many times over as an adult, I've really started understanding the brilliance of the writing and acting, and the show in general, which I feel is an all-time top ten sitcom. The Girls have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years, as I see more and more wine glasses, board games, socks, etc., out there every day. This is great for all the true fans, but I have a feeling a lot of the people buying this stuff are doing it ironically and don't even really like or know the show. For the record, there's never been an ounce of disingenuousness in my many declarations of love for The Golden Girls throughout the years. I say this just in case anyone has the inaccurate notion that I'm jumping on any sort of trendy merch bandwagon. Perhaps I should've created my Mod Pop Art ode to Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia many years ago, but oh, well. Better late than ... pregnant, right?
