Check out the entire True Romance Collection!
Gary Oldman is an Oscar winner and one of the most respected and revered actors ever. But to me, his best work is still playing the disgusting pimp Drexl Spivey in True Romance. Drexl is a central character to the story, though Oldman is essentially only in one scene ... a legendary scene so good it would have stolen the whole movie if not for the Walken/Hopper scene. This piece features the only instance of stippling found here at Plaid Design; stippling is an art technique of using tiny dots or specks to produce a rich, detailed shading effect. I only used it here on Drexl's hat to add a texture effect because it is made of leather. Stippling was also the technique I used in my piece "Spoonbill," for which I won the national Congressional Arts Award. It looks cool, but takes FOREVER. Rarely do I stipple anymore, but I felt Drexl here was worth the extra time.
