Check out the entire Laurel & Hardy Collection!

I first started watching Laurel & Hardy as a kid, when a local TV station played old comedy films on weekends. Every Sunday I watched religiously (pun intended), and there's no doubt in my mind that this weekly precursor to TCM (Turner Classic Movies, my favorite channel), is the reason that to this day, I love classic comedy and classic film more than just about anything. Whenever Laurel & Hardy came on, I knew I was in for a treat, and they soon became my favorites to watch and laugh with. I have willingly and eagerly carried this love for them into adulthood; as I watch them now, I feel they were light-years ahead of their time ... sure, there was plenty of silly slapstick, which is always fun, but they surged ahead of the other comedy teams of the time by combining the big physical humor with plenty of subtle quiet moments, often breaking the 4th wall with "Can you believe this guy?" glares at the camera and lines that really brought the audience into their world. More than anything, they created starkly contrasting but fully developed personalities that were consistently endearing; it's almost impossible to not like them. No matter how mean Ollie was to Stan or how much Stan carelessly and unknowingly put Ollie through hell, we always knew they would stay best buds for life. The comfort of that knowledge is part of the magic they bring, which is completely missing from most other comedy teams, past or present. For "Give Me a Light," I painted the recurring "thumb lighter" gag from Way Out West, as it is a great iconic moment, and I thought the looks on the boys' faces really showcased their personalities well. To add a whimsical touch, I used polka-dots for the background, a pattern often seen in their ties. I hope Laurel & Hardy fans worldwide will enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed creating it!
